TSA and the Case of the Not-So-Cupcake

What is a cupcake? A miniature cake in a wrapper right? According to some TSA officials, it might just be our next "cupcake bomb". As according to the TSA; terrorists are using every day items to conceal their bombs.

Recently a woman and her husband along with a jar of cupcake made it through one screening by the TSA. Apparently Boston's Logan Airport thought the jarred cupcake looked delicious. While her Red Velvet cupcake was stopped in the Las Vegas Airport and the "offending" cupcake was confiscated. Both cupcakes had been packaged in glass mason jars for easier passage through airport security by the bakery themselves.

So then why did one airport pass the delicious bakery item through security with no problems, while another airport kidnapped the pastry? If the Las Vegas Airport had issue with the jarred baked good why didn't they just ask this poor woman to taste the baked item in front of them? After all they have done so to women carrying baby formula in a bottle.

Is this just the TSA's way of trying to embarrass anyone they can? Yes I agree after 9/11 we had to tighten our security for the obvious reasons. Let's make our aviation travel safer, but not at the expense of one's pride. Is it really necessary to strip search a woman that you can obviously tell has had a double mastectomy? Hasn't she already suffered more than enough? Must we embarrass someone that has to have a colostomy bag?

There are ways to go about screening for our safety without making anyone the joke of the TSA's day. It is totally unacceptable to allow our Security Personnel the freedom to embarrass even one more person. It is time that our Government step in and tell the TSA that they are getting way out of control with their understanding of the new safety rules. We need strict guidelines that each TSA member MUST follow. Do not allow these people to continue to ruin someones flying experience.

Yes I do believe we must keep tighter security, it is a fact of life that there are those that want to do the U.S. harm. They have always wanted to do harm wherever and however they can to hurt the U.S.A. We can continue making tighter Airport security screening, or we can do what needs to be done. I myself am tired of hearing that we can't close our borders; fine don't. However as long as we continue allowing everyone into our Country, we will continue to face the threats of terrorists on U.S. soil doing more of the unthinkable.

At what point is enough going to be enough though? At what point do we finally say, we are not going to treat our citizens as prisoners any longer? Let's stop making our U.S. citizens prisoners in their own country. Yes it is everyone's responsibility to help keep America safe. It is our duty to also make sure that our own citizens are not being treated unfairly.

This story posted on CNN is silly. There was NO reason for the TSA member to confiscate this woman's cupcake rather it was in a jar or was pre-baked. There is no excuse for idiocy. Use the brain that you were given at birth people!
